Making It Memorable

A wide variety of very popular billboard advertisements

Let’s say you’ve decided to purchase a billboard. This will allow you to gather the attention of anyone passing by your board. But how should your board look? How do you guarantee that what people see will attract them beyond the moment’s notice they have to scan it?
Because you have a limited window to catch people’s attention, the value comes in how memorable your ad is. Stale, dull, or otherwise unmemorable ads can be worse than no ad at all. Don’t turn off your potential clientele before they’ve even had a chance to see your services.

A memorable advertisement

Making an ad memorable includes quite a few factors. First, it of course has to be tied in some way to the services your offering. For a car dealer, for example, showcasing the best of your fleet on a digital billboard may be in your best interest.
The color scheme, positioning, and more will also play a big role in how memorable your ad is. You can have the best design ever, and a poorly placed tree can completely overshadow it. Be sure to seek areas that are high in traffic, particularly that of your target audience. Static designs can be memorable, but digital ads give you. more options to work with.

Catchphrase of the day

One of the other best tools you can use to enhance your ad are words. A memorable adage or catchphrase can just as easily stick with consumers as an image. You get extra points if it can relate to the actual service your company is offering.

Hi, I’m Jason Sirotin and today I’m speaking with Bill Hobbs, who is the owner and proprietor, managing director, everything of Effortless Outdoor Media, which is a outdoor media advertising placement company. You’ve been doing this a long time, Bill, how do you make a billboard memorable?

Bill Hobbs:

The best thing is, there’s a couple of different options, but to make a billboard memorable, you want to, number one, have something that catches the person’s eye, or a catchphrase that is going to be easy to remember. For example, Reliable Heating & Air is one of my clients. And some of their billboards have “Doing it great since ’78” They have a couple other ones, one says “Cool as a cucumber”

Jason Sirotin:

Yeah-

Bill Hobbs:

And have “Cool as” and has a picture of a cucumber. So, there’s all sorts of different ways you can make it memorable. And I use my 30 years experience to sit down with the client and figure out what they’re trying to accomplish. And then, I design a piece of artwork for them that’s going to stand out over the other advertising that’s up on billboards right now.

Jason Sirotin:
